Heh. I started listening to "I Should Be Writing" shortly after I finished listening to your '05 podcast. I think I heard about ISBW from Holly Lisle's podcast, which ran Mur's promo. Mur also has a podcast called "Geek Fu Action Grip," which is similarly entertaining, so I started listening to it after I ran out of ISBW episodes.
I didn't have an outline for NaNoWriMo last year, so I jumped ship after a few days of going nowhere. But I've been working on the outline for Chiaroscuro on and off this month. I've been mostly waiting for answers to questions I had about the villain and they've been slow in coming.
I've been reading The Art of Dramat!c Wr!t!ng by Lajos Egri as some more inspiration and ideas as to how to plot/construct a story. It's specifically for playwrights, but it provides a terrific background on creating a solid story through a strong premise and dynamic characters.
I currently have the first four chapters planned out and a stable of four major characters. But now I've run into a problem: a market deadline. I have a short story I'm trying to get written in time for my writers group to critique it on Saturday, then I want to get it sent out to said market ("Tales of the Unanticipated," a Minnesota SF/Fantasy magazine that comes out once/twice a year) by the end of the month. This severely cuts into my outlining time, but we'll see how much more I can squeeze in by the end of the month.
I've also dragged my fiancé in to NaNoWriMo, and a friend of ours is planning on doing it this month. I've got at least one friend from college working on it, as well, so I've got community, even though I'm probably going to miss a number of the local gatherings due to classes and being out of town.
